QRS QualityISO 16128 Natural and Organic Ingredients
ISO 16128 provides a framework for natural and organic content calculations in cosmetic ingredients and products. Explain each result alongside the definitions and inputs used.
Define the scope correctly
Are the natural index and natural-origin index the same?
The ingredient categories and calculation approaches have different meanings. State which definition the value represents. A result from one column should not be presented as the percentage supporting another claim. Keep manufacturing information and the method's basis traceable in the calculation file.
Can an index be assigned from the INCI name when the supplier provides no value?
Do not invent a precise index without sufficient source and processing information. Obtain necessary raw material data and support classification technically. The same INCI name from different origins may need different assessment. Keep uncertainty visible as a gap to resolve in the calculation.
When can treating a raw material blend as one ingredient cause problems?
Understand what the declared blend index covers. Omitting carriers, preservatives or other constituents can distort the result. Match supplier information to the proportion used in the formula. Record the approach and supporting basis so another reviewer can reproduce the reasoning.
