Scope and current rules
FSSC 22000 combines ISO 22000, sector appropriate prerequisite programmes and additional FSSC requirements. Version 7 was published in May 2026. The transition matters: Version 6 audits may run until 30 April 2027; Version 7 audits start from 1 May 2027.
Begin an FSSC application brief with legal entity, sites, activities, food-chain category, products and outsourced controls. List any existing ISO22000 or FSSC certificate and the audit cycle. Identify the sector prerequisite-programme basis and the intended audit version as questions to confirm, not assumptions.
Connect preparation to real production
The site team supplies operating evidence; preparation maps ISO22000, sector prerequisites and additional FSSC requirements separately. Agree the actual version and category with a licensed body, then assign owners to missing evidence and physical changes. A quotation or ISO22000 certificate alone does not establish acceptance or completion of FSSC certification.
A hypothetical food business wishes to add a warehouse to its existing certification scope. An address alone does not explain its activity, products or operational control. Check the category and applicable prerequisite programmes, then record effects on the hazard analysis and FSSC additional requirements. The licensed body assesses scope and the applicable audit version; an ISO 22000 certificate copy does not automatically add the warehouse to FSSC coverage.
Assessment scope and decision boundaries
Publication of Version 7 does not mean every October 2026 audit uses it. Agree the applicable audit version and the transition after 1 May 2027 with the certification body. Track open findings, changes and follow-up assessments separately when planning certificate continuation.
The business prepares its own process controls and authentic operating records. A request to QRS must identify the activity and proposed assessment programme; acceptance requires confirmation of applicable scope, authority and conflicts of interest. QRS’s published impartiality policy excludes management-system consultancy and consultancy-like implementation guidance. For a scope discussion with QRS, share activities, addresses, products and customer requirements. Verify the selected scheme’s body approval and scope in the official register. Preparation, independent assessment and the certification decision are separate stages.
