Discuss your scopeEN 1090-1 concerns conformity assessment of structural steel and aluminium components and kits placed on the market as construction products. Define the actual supplied configuration, intended use and manufacturing activities before preparing an application. A workshop’s metalworking capability alone does not describe the product performance or the scope to be assessed.

Keep design responsibility, production controls, laboratory work and the body’s assigned decision separate. Check the current harmonised reference and CPR framework for the product family; execution-standard editions and contractual requirements need their own review.
Conditional example: the customer provides a drawing for a bolted frame, then changes the connection plate and hole layout before manufacture. The workshop retains the earlier drawing in its preparation file and assumes customer design means no further coordination. Identify the authorised revision, affected requirements and actual component configuration before manufacturing or claiming the old evidence still applies.
Link the design handover to production instructions, material identity and actual inspection records for the supplied frame. Determine who confirms the changed design and what evidence must be updated. Do not sign an unused drawing as if it described the finished component, or treat a consultant’s checklist as an engineering decision on the connection.
The preparation output should show the agreed product and sites, input owners, usable evidence, gaps and actions still outstanding. Preserve original records and the basis of acceptance rather than replacing missing work with a generic manual. Where evidence or scope is unresolved, record the question and the responsible next decision clearly.
The manufacturer remains responsible for actual production and its product declaration; the body decides its assigned assessment and certification. QRS can coordinate preparation and responses.
