PPE CE Enquiry: Product Risks, Evidence and Assessment Scope

A PPE enquiry should identify the equipment and the decision sought before a commercial scope is agreed.

Discuss your scope

Provide a risk-specific request

State the manufacturer, target market, intended wearer, protective risks, configurations and conditions. Supply drawings, materials, instructions and existing tests/type documents. Check Regulation 2016/425's scope and exclusions; distinguish the equipment’s risk category from a particular performance class or workplace selection decision.

Article 19 ordinarily assigns A to Category I, B+C to II and B with C2 or D to III, with a specific exception. Required evidence and body tasks must follow the actual applicable route, rather than the same package for all protective equipment.

Case: interchangeable lens marketed for a new purpose

Hypothetically, a purchaser supplies ordinary sunglass evidence for an interchangeable lens advertised for another protective use. Identify the complete equipment, lens configuration, claimed risk and instructions, then determine whether the evidence covers that purpose. Do not treat a familiar product family or component document as approval of the new claim.

Record the missing model/test link and the actual holder of each decision. Authenticity of a document, conformity of the delivered equipment and suitability for the user's conditions are distinct questions; explain which one the request addresses.

Clarify the QRS activity and authority

The manufacturer substantiates conformity and issues its declaration; a notified body performs the tasks for which it is designated. Article 24 requires independent assessment and prohibits direct design and conflicting consultancy. Neither a logo nor an accreditation claim proves a PPE notification.

Submit the product description and requested activity to QRS for scope and acceptance review. Confirm actual authority and impartiality before work is agreed. This page does not establish a PPE appointment, completed test or guaranteed result; the responsible actor remains accountable for each output.
