Questions for your situation
Is another audit unnecessary when a supplier has ISO certification?
Review certificate scope, currency and connection to the purchased activity. Customer-specific quality, safety, capacity or traceability requirements may need further assessment. Base the decision on risk, history and critical processes. Certification does not guarantee that every order will be delivered to specification.
How should audit criteria be defined beforehand?
Identify contracts, technical specifications, applicable requirements and expected process outcomes. State the site, product family and period. Auditors must not present personal preferences as mandatory criteria. Resolve ambiguities early so findings can provide a defensible basis for purchasing decisions.
Does one satisfactory production record establish conformity of the entire process?
Sampling should reflect risk and variability. Select meaningful examples across shifts, families, critical operations, rework and nonconforming goods. Sampling is not complete inspection of the population; explain its limitations. One successful batch does not invalidate recurring problems elsewhere.
Should outsourced coating or heat treatment suppliers be considered?
Examine control of external processes affecting the purchased product. Review critical sub-supplier selection, process capability, reports and traceability. Determine direct site review according to risk and contracts. Outsourcing by the main supplier does not remove its control responsibilities.
Can conditional supplier approval be granted before findings are closed?
Base the decision on safety and contractual effects. Where conditional acceptance is appropriate, define limits, temporary controls, owners, deadlines and stop criteria. Auditors report findings; purchasing and technical authorities decide within their roles. Delivery urgency alone cannot close a critical risk.
Does approval remain valid after relocation or substantial volume growth?
Assess changes in capacity, equipment, staff, external processes and quality performance. Determine how well the earlier report represents new conditions. Plan further audits or samples and increased monitoring where needed. Manage approval through changes and performance as well as calendar dates.
