ISO 9001 training: curriculum and assessment
This curriculum is for people who must understand or operate a quality management system: process owners, customer-facing staff and coordinators of organisational improvement.
Audience and preparation
This curriculum is for people who must understand or operate a quality management system: process owners, customer-facing staff and coordinators of organisational improvement. Begin with the organisation's actual products or services, customer requirements and each learner's responsibility. Ask participants to bring a redacted process map and one acceptance criterion. A quality-system course is different from product testing, technical inspection and learning to lead a certification audit. Confirm the edition to be taught using the current ISO catalogue and agreed course brief; a published revision does not itself prove every issuer's transition arrangements.
Learning sequence and expected records
The programme first connects organisational context, customers and process responsibilities. It then develops measurable objectives, operational planning, control of externally provided work and retention of useful evidence. Learners distinguish an output's acceptance criteria from a convenient internal activity measure, and connect complaints or failures to correction and improvement. The expected learning product is a process-learning map: who decides, what information is needed, which output is accepted and how performance is evaluated. Learning clauses in isolation cannot replace that connection.
Planning exercise
A process meets its dispatch target while returns increase. Prepare a record connecting the order requirement, release checks, measured result and repeated failure. Explain which indicator hides the problem and what evidence would test corrective-action effectiveness. Producing another procedure is not evidence that the product problem has been removed.
Assessment and role limits

A preparation task to discuss with QRS
Illustrative learning task; not an actual customer case or a promised course assessment.
Prepare these practical records
- Process map exercise
- Risk and objective worksheet
- Draft process control record
Bring a customer-facing process and examples of its outputs and quality issues for the practical exercise.
Before agreeing the programme, compare the proposed task with the participant’s role, experience and permitted evidence. Record the criterion, what the learner demonstrated and the remaining gap separately; attendance alone does not demonstrate the work.
