ISO 50001 training: curriculum and assessment
This curriculum is for energy coordinators, maintenance engineers, procurement staff and data owners who need to support an energy management system.
Audience and preparation
This curriculum is for energy coordinators, maintenance engineers, procurement staff and data owners who need to support an energy management system. Specify facilities, energy types and the learner's role before choosing modules. Bring permitted meter or invoice examples, a basic process map and the meaning of their units. The programme is not an energy audit of the actual plant and does not guarantee savings, an incentive entitlement or improved performance from course attendance alone.
Learning sequence and expected records
The learning sequence addresses energy review, significant energy uses, relevant variables, performance indicators and the baseline used for comparison. It connects data quality and measurement responsibilities with operational controls, design and procurement decisions. Participants learn to recognise when periods, units or boundaries prevent a valid comparison and when additional measurement is needed. A learner's output is a source-and-decision map that shows which data support a specific performance question and who maintains them.
Planning exercise
Energy consumption falls during a production stoppage. Align meter and production periods, state relevant variables and compare the performance indicator with its baseline. The learner should distinguish reduced activity from a demonstrated efficiency improvement and explain when a genuine operational change warrants reviewing the baseline assumptions.
Assessment and role limits

A preparation task to discuss with QRS
Illustrative learning task; not an actual customer case or a promised course assessment.
Prepare these practical records
- Energy data worksheet
- Indicator calculation exercise
- Draft energy action plan
Bring energy bills, meter data and a description of major energy uses for the practical exercise.
Before agreeing the programme, compare the proposed task with the participant’s role, experience and permitted evidence. Record the criterion, what the learner demonstrated and the remaining gap separately; attendance alone does not demonstrate the work.
