ISO 45001 training: curriculum and assessment
The curriculum is for supervisors, health-and-safety coordinators, worker representatives and colleagues managing contractor interfaces.
Audience and preparation
The curriculum is for supervisors, health-and-safety coordinators, worker representatives and colleagues managing contractor interfaces. Before enrolment, define workplaces, tasks, worker groups and the participant's actual responsibility. Choose examples that can be discussed safely without disclosing personal health information. Familiarity with the work is important; an introductory management-system class is not authorisation to perform hazardous work or a substitute for occupation-specific competence and required safety instruction.
Learning sequence and expected records
Modules connect organisational responsibilities and worker participation with hazard identification, risk evaluation and selection of controls. Learners distinguish elimination or engineering measures from instructions and personal protective equipment, and connect incident information to improvement without automatically blaming the worker. Contractor coordination, planned changes, emergency arrangements and performance review are addressed according to the selected activities. The learning result identifies who contributes, who decides and what evidence can demonstrate that a control operates.
Planning exercise
A risk assessment gives a task a low score, but a near miss shows a missing guard. Reconstruct the task conditions, worker input and control assumption before changing the score. The exercise outcome should identify the failed control and evidence for its correction, rather than treating a higher number as the solution.
Assessment and role limits

A preparation task to discuss with QRS
Illustrative learning task; not an actual customer case or a promised course assessment.
Prepare these practical records
- Hazard assessment exercise
- Worker consultation scenario
- Draft workplace control plan
Bring a work activity, workplace description and anonymised incident example for the practical exercise.
Before agreeing the programme, compare the proposed task with the participant’s role, experience and permitted evidence. Record the criterion, what the learner demonstrated and the remaining gap separately; attendance alone does not demonstrate the work.
