ISO 33002 in Practice: Representative and Repeatable Process Assessment

A useful process assessment allows another competent person to understand the result from the same scope and evidence. Training should make planning assumptions and interpretation limits visible.

Questions for your situation

Is a list of process names sufficient for the assessment plan?

Explain the purpose, organisational boundary, model, roles, timetable and evidence-access conditions. Identify the units and periods to be examined. Training should show how an incomplete plan leads to poor sampling or results that cannot be compared. Record the reason and effect when the plan changes during assessment.

Can one record provide evidence for more than one process?

A work product may support different purposes, but each connection needs its own justification. A change record, for example, may demonstrate a decision and traceability without proving that a test was performed. Training should identify both supported and unsupported conclusions. Do not repeatedly count the same file merely to increase evidence volume.

What should be planned when interviews and records use different languages?

Address shared terminology, translation support, confidentiality and the risk of misinterpreting evidence. Use the model’s core concepts consistently. Training should examine examples where different teams use the same term for different processes. Changing the language alone does not satisfy every acceptance condition in another country or customer programme.

Can a score under a new model edition be compared directly with an earlier result?

Changes in scope and criteria may affect the comparison. Explain comparable areas and limitations and identify any additional assessment needed. Training should investigate whether a higher score reflects real process improvement or a changed method. Republishing an earlier result under a new name can undermine traceability.

Are missing evidence and an inadequate process the same finding?

Failure to locate evidence does not always prove that an activity never occurred, but it limits support for a positive result. Conduct appropriate further examination and apply the model’s assessment rules. Training should record observed deficiencies, unverified statements and adverse evidence separately. Uncertainty must not be hidden behind a definitive conclusion.

Does an ISO 33002 course produce a certificate for the organisation?

The course output differs from an independent assessment of the organisation. State the nature of the training certificate beforehand. If recognition under a particular sector programme is required, check that programme’s rules separately. Training prepares participants for assessment tasks; it does not provide an unverified approval or level guarantee.
