Questions for your situation
How should a spreadsheet formula change be checked?
Identify the altered cells and calculation path; check known results and boundary cases. Prevent unauthorised changes and record the version used. A file opening successfully does not demonstrate correct calculation. Training can include independently recalculating a result from raw data through to the final output.
Does an unsuccessful proficiency test invalidate every report?
Investigate the cause, affected method and period alongside other quality control evidence. Do not declare every result correct or incorrect before assessing the impact. Plan necessary corrections, notifications and further checks. Training should show how one unsuccessful result leads to a thorough but proportionate investigation.
How is a report prepared when part of the testing is assigned to another laboratory?
Check provider competence, the requested method, sample traceability and customer conditions. Externally supplied results must be identifiable and traceable. Do not imply that your accreditation scope automatically covers every external result. Training should connect responsibilities across the order, delivery of results and final report.
Is the same training sufficient for one method used with different matrices?
Matrix effects, preparation steps, measurement range and quality control needs can differ. Retain shared basic training while practising the different applications separately. Authorisation should reflect the actual scope. Course duration depends on personnel experience and method complexity, not simply the standard’s number.
Should analysis continue when a sample label conflicts with the work order?
Assess the identity uncertainty’s effect on result reliability and apply the acceptance rules. Resolve missing information through the appropriate channel; do not assign a result to another sample by assumption. Preserve the correction trail. Training should address customer communication, holding decisions and limitations requiring disclosure in the report.
Is a scope review unnecessary if a new instrument uses the same method name?
Compare measurement principles, performance, range, software and environmental conditions. Demonstrate that the method works on the new instrument and that personnel are competent. Review accreditation scope and notification implications under the relevant rules. Copying the old instrument’s file does not demonstrate that the new system performs correctly.
