Questions for your situation
What should be examined when two inspectors reach different decisions on the same item?
Compare the criteria, methods, observation conditions and evidence. Establish whether the difference comes from technical interpretation or incomplete records. A majority vote is not a technical justification. Training should use joint examination of decision examples to clarify interpretation limits and identify when further assessment is needed.
How does an externally supplied test result contribute to an inspection decision?
Check whether the test represents the item and required property, and review the method and provider’s competence. Using a result is different from transferring responsibility for the inspection decision. External evidence should be traceable in the report. Training should particularly test the link between the sample identity and the inspected item.
Does transition to the 2026 edition require only changing the manual cover?
Review organisational relationships and practical changes alongside the new A/non-A distinction. Plan training around affected tasks, records and the change list. Follow the competent accreditation body’s transition announcement. Publication of the new edition does not mean every earlier report becomes invalid on the same day.
When is a site photograph sent by phone insufficient?
A photograph provides limited decision evidence if the item’s identity, date, shooting conditions or measurement context cannot be verified. Further examination is needed if the required feature cannot be assessed from the image. Preserve file integrity and access controls. Training should compare adequate and incomplete records and explain which conclusions cannot be drawn.
Can the sales team determine inspection time on its own?
Allow for the number of items, method, site conditions, travel and technical review. Commercial targets must not reduce the examination required. State scope and limitations clearly in the quotation. A training scenario should connect technical resource needs to pricing and avoid promising a timescale for work that cannot be completed properly.
How should a complaint about an earlier inspection report be handled?
Identify the report version, original records, inspection conditions and personnel. Ensure impartial examination and preserve the relationship between old and corrected records when a correction is needed. Quietly replacing a file damages traceability. Training should treat complaint review, report correction and customer notification as distinct steps.
