Questions for your situation
Which records can be traced through a sampled ship file?
Review acceptance, vessel-specific hazards, planned operations, authorised teams and resulting material or waste records together. Explain differences between planned and actual work sequences. A well-prepared file for another ship does not establish the sampled vessel's conditions. Technical characteristics and activity risks should inform sample selection.
Is a note added to the plan enough when unexpected hazardous material is found?
First control the affected work safely and obtain appropriate specialist evaluation. Determine effects on methods, workers, storage and waste flows. Updating the plan records decisions but is not itself a protective measure. Inform relevant teams and define authority for restarting work.
Does a contractor's training certificate establish competence on site?
The document may evidence attendance or assessment; check its relationship to the actual task. Demonstrate understanding of vessel-specific risks, methods and coordination separately. Competent personnel do not eliminate necessary controls and supervision. Do not assume one general training record is sufficient for different duties.
Why do discrepancies in outgoing waste quantities matter?
Differences may result from measurement or classification, but can also indicate missing traceability or an improper flow. Compare vessel estimates, segregation, weighing and acceptance records. Not every variance automatically proves nonconformity; significant deviations need explanations and action where appropriate. Check that the recipient is authorised for the specific waste type.
Does an ISO 30000 audit issue ship import or facility acceptance permits?
Management system assessment is not the competent authority's permit process. It examines how the organisation identifies and follows applicable permits and notifications. State the assessment and output boundaries clearly in the offer. Do not promise one universal permission route without considering the ship, flag, facility country and operating conditions.
How should scope be handled when part of the facility closes?
Assess effects on activities, storage and equipment capacity. Determine whether the remaining scope can operate safely and whether new external services are needed. The certification body handles the change and any scope reduction. Do not continue presenting unused or uncontrolled areas as part of valid certification.
