Questions for your situation
Is an internal audit plan covering only the quality department sufficient?
Evaluate relevant processes and interactions within the management system scope. Sales, purchasing, production, service and support activities can affect quality outcomes. Base the plan on the actual organisation. Examining files held by the quality department does not demonstrate implementation of the whole system in practice.
How should a finding be written if an employee cannot describe the procedure but works correctly?
First identify the applicable criterion and expected competence or awareness. Failure to memorise a document number is not a nonconformity by itself. Assess actual practice, access to instructions and necessary knowledge. State the unmet requirement clearly; training should distinguish personal expectations from system requirements.
How should an outsourced process be sampled during an audit?
Examine the organisation’s controls, acceptance records and performance monitoring for that process. Supplier evidence or site examination may be appropriate where risk warrants it. Outsourcing does not remove control responsibilities within the system scope. A training case should connect the contract to actual acceptance records.
What happens when the auditor and department manager disagree about a finding’s significance?
Base the decision on defined criteria, risk and objective evidence, not personal authority. Review the examples supporting the finding together and correct any error. Record disagreement appropriately and follow the organisation’s process. Training should practise clear findings and reporting without personalising the discussion.
Can practical exercises be removed to shorten internal audit training?
An awareness-only objective may justify different content. For someone who will audit, consider how practical skill will be acquired and assessed. Participant numbers, knowledge of the standard and process examples affect duration. Distinguish theory, cases and assessment in the quotation; the shortest programme does not meet every need.
How should auditor development be monitored after new software or organisational changes?
Identify knowledge gaps concerning changed workflows, records and risks. Observed auditing or focused exercises on the new process may help. An earlier certificate does not replace current competence assessment. Use finding quality and feedback in the development plan, keeping training records alongside evidence of actual performance.
