Questions for your situation
Is a welding process number enough for an ISO 3834 application?
Also describe material groups, products, sites, outsourced work and quality level. Technically different jobs can share one process number. Assess personnel, procedures and coordination against actual scope. Missing information can lead to unsuitable audit teams or duration planning.
Does ISO 9001 certification include ISO 3834 requirements?
ISO 9001 is general quality management; ISO 3834 addresses welding-specific quality. Shared document and corrective-action controls may be used, but procedures, coordination and technical competence still need evidence. Conversely, ISO 3834 should not be presented as a complete general quality management standard.
Is the welding coordinator's role simply to have a name in the certification file?
Assess duties, authority, technical competence and actual availability. Show who makes scope-appropriate decisions and approves changes. Explain continuity and working relationships for external coordination. A diploma or contract alone does not establish performance of the role on site.
Can a subcontracted welder's qualification issued under another company be accepted directly?
Review technical scope, validity and employer or supervision conditions under the applicable qualification standard. Dates alone are insufficient. Process, materials and positions should suit the job, and organisational controls must include the person. Acceptance depends on the document's actual rules.
How is scope extended for a new material group?
Review procedures, personnel qualifications, consumables, heat controls and inspection needs. Develop operating evidence and notify the certification body. Adding a material name to a certificate alone does not establish competence. Determine further review from actual technical differences.
How can recurring weld defects affect certification status?
Assess extent, causes and action effectiveness. Procedure, material, equipment or control weaknesses require different corrections. Continued certification should not be reduced to one retest; consider management of nonconformity too. Follow the issuer's surveillance and certificate-use conditions.
