ISO 37001 Audits: Due Diligence and Financial Controls

An anti-bribery system should be traceable from policy to individual transactions. These questions examine third-party review, payment controls and allegation handling.

Questions for your situation

Is sending every supplier the same form sufficient due diligence?

Roles, public sector connections, countries, transaction structures and payment arrangements create different risks. A common form may provide initial information, but higher-risk relationships may require deeper verification. Explain the review depth and triggers for renewal. Show what decisions follow missing answers or contradictions.

Does a consultancy invoice alone demonstrate that a payment is legitimate?

The invoice is one record. The service, reason for purchase, delivery evidence, fee justification and true recipient may also require review. Vague descriptions, unusual commissions or different payment accounts warrant examination. Approvals should involve risk-appropriate questions rather than purely formal signatures.

How can an allegation involving management be reviewed impartially?

Allowing the subject to direct the investigation alone can create a conflict. Consider independent authority and external expertise appropriate to governance arrangements. Define evidence access, confidentiality and reporting routes. An audit does not deliver a judicial finding; it assesses whether an appropriate investigation mechanism operated.

What should be examined when a gift was approved only after it was given?

Compare actual timing with rules requiring prior approval. An isolated delay, misunderstood procedure and systematic bypass are different situations. Assess influence and timing to determine correction and action against recurrence. Completing records later does not erase the earlier control failure.

Can adding a new intermediary and country together change the audit plan?

Share the changed risk profile during application or surveillance planning. Due diligence, new payment flows and responsible staff competence may need additional sampling. Assess duration and scope against actual activities. Previous headcount alone may fail to represent significant new transaction risks.

Does publication of a new edition invalidate existing certificates immediately?

Publication and certification transition arrangements are separate. Verify the certificate's edition, validity and applicable transition timetable with the issuer and relevant accreditation rules. Do not import a general news deadline into a contract automatically. Plan gap assessment, implementation and evaluation, and claim the new edition only when certification supports it.

Does ISO 37001 certification guarantee that bribery will never occur?

Certification assesses a management system within a defined scope; it does not guarantee an absence of incidents. Control implementation, report handling and improvement are evaluated. Criminal and civil responsibility involve separate authorised processes. The certificate is not conclusive evidence that every past transaction was lawful.
