Environmental product declaration: programme, life-cycle data and publication

Prepare an EPD around a defined product function, current product-category rules and a chosen programme. An emissions spreadsheet alone is not an environmental product declaration.

Environmental Product Declaration — QRS Quality

Define the route and boundary

First identify the programme operator, the applicable product-category rules (PCR), intended audience and reference unit. ISO 14025:2026 is the current catalogue edition; ISO 14025:2006 is withdrawn. A programme may have its own implementation arrangements, so catalogue publication alone does not establish the validity or expiry of an existing declaration. Confirm the applicable rules before commissioning the life-cycle assessment.

A practical decision before a claim

Consider a hypothetical comparison of two insulation boards. Different thicknesses, thermal performance, service lives or life-cycle modules can make a comparison misleading even when both documents report impacts per square metre. Resolve functional equivalence and comparable boundaries first. A lower climate indicator alone does not establish superiority across the other environmental impact categories, and an EPD is not a general green rating.

Records, deliverables and quotation

Prepare the product recipe, manufacturing energy and yield, allocation rationale, transport assumptions, background-data versions and reporting period. Identify which variants the data represent and which changes require review. Request separately priced preparation, life-cycle modelling, independent verification and programme registration or publication where required. Data gaps, product families and the operator’s review calendar affect duration; this page promises no fixed fee or publication date.

Who reviews and who decides

QRS can receive a scoped enquiry and identify the requested deliverables and assessment route. Before engagement, identify who will calculate, who will independently verify and which operator will register the declaration. Management-system accreditation does not itself establish EPD verification or programme approval. An EPD does not replace product safety, CE or installation requirements. The manufacturer remains responsible for accurate product data and the permitted use of published claims.

Official sources and application limits

The operating examples are hypothetical, not customer events or guaranteed decisions. The actual standard and competent body determine requirements.
