QRS QualityAgricultural Carbon Footprint
Agricultural greenhouse gas work considers relevant biological processes and land use alongside fuel and electricity. Results should represent a defined period and production boundary.
Define the scope correctly
Does calculating farm diesel use cover all agricultural emissions?
Depending on production, fertiliser, soil management, livestock, energy, input manufacture or land use may also matter. Determine sources within organisational or product boundaries. Relying only on easy-to-find invoices can leave gaps. Explain the sector method and reasons for exclusions.
Can one average be used for the same crop across different plots?
Soils, irrigation, yields, fertilisation and seasonal conditions can differ. Define plot-level data first and justify aggregation and weights. High yield on one plot does not fill another's data gap. State whether the result represents the farm, a crop or a sales batch.
Does a fertiliser purchase invoice directly establish the amount applied?
Purchases, stock carryover and actual use may differ. Compare composition, application dates, plots and quantities. Do not count stored fertiliser as applied or omit opening stock. Where estimates are necessary, disclose sources, assumptions and uncertainty.
